WIPocalypse 2024 Check-In - June 30, 2024

 Today's discussion topic is:

"Half-year recap:  How are you doing with your goals so far this year?"

Here are my 2024 goals, as stated in January 2024:

Goals for 2024 (in addition to finishing two Fox & Rabbit SALs):

  • beading the "Christmas Banner 2023" by Stitchonomy and "Hope & Strength" by Glendale Place
  • putting at least a few stitches in Elizabeth Almond's "Save the Stitches"
  • finishing "Kingdoms of Life" by Stitchonomy

1. Fox & Rabbit SAL 2023 - making progress despite finding a potential nasty error in the bottom left corner of the border.

2. Fox & Rabbit SAL 2024 - Up to date through installment 6.

3. Beaded the 2023 "Christmas Banner"

4. Haven't touched the beading on "Hope & Strength"

5. Have stitched blocks 78 - 107 of Elizabeth Almond (24 blocks to go to have a finish!)

6. Finished "Protista, Archaea and Fungi wedges and am approximately 50% finished on Animalia wedge for "Kingdoms of Life" SAL.

7. No progress on my traveling needlepoint... I need to sort threads before our July road trip...

So, over all, I'd say I'm on scheduled to have a near-zero WIP stash by the end of 2024.

~~~~~WIPS~~~~~
1. Elizabeth Almond's "Save the Stitches", begun in 2014. I worked on blocks 101-107 (out of 131) this month.
2. "Kingdoms of Life" by Stitchonomy, begun in 2023. Using the kit provided (an oatmeal Aida and DMC colors) plus a select few skeins of grey and greens for the changes to make my biology major mind happy with how the individual organisms look in real life. I made progress on the animal kingdom this month...
3. "Royal Gardens", a mystery SAL by Fox & Rabbit, begun in 2023. On a pale green 32ct Lugana (it said "sapphire" but it doesn't look blue to me) and Threadworx variegated thread (1048 "Woodland Green"). I continued to work on the left border this month. (It as ONE stitch off so I need to figure out how to fudge the design between the borders at the bottom left to meet up properly. AARGH!).
4. "Faith, Hope, Love", a mystery SAL for 2024 by Fox & Rabbit. On antique white 28 ct Lugana using a Threadworx variegated (Autumn Leaves 1039) and three DMC colors (436, 975, and 310) that closely match some colors on that Threadworx floss... I'm on schedule here - July's installment is due out on momentarily...
~~~~~ A FINISH!~~~~~

Stitchoomy Summer Banner 2024 SAL. This SAL began for club subscribers on May 14... I am stitching on the Midas Gold AIDA and the DMC threads in the kit. I have stitched all bands called for, with the exception of two, where I chose the alternate provided. I purposely omitted the 16th "installment" of "white sparklers" so that this version of the banner would not be an exact copy of the 2022 version (210920746822434353.weebly.com/my-stitchery-journal/archives/07-2022).

~~~~~
On the non-SAL (and inactive SAL) front:
  • The Glendon Place "Hope & Strength" piece still requires extensive beading.
  • The Lakeside SAL "Login" still languishes untouched.
  • My traveling needlepoint was taken out in March and put right back in the project bag. I still need to sit down with the chart and sort and label large hanks of numbered threads by color so I can actually stitch!  I haven't gotten around to it yet... AAARGH!.
And that is my June report...
WIPocalypse 2024 Check-In - May 26, 2024
 Today's discussion topic is:
"How do you personally distinguish between a Work in Progress (WIP) and an Unfinished Object (UFO)?"
It's a matter of time away from the project and whether or not the subject/theme of the project is interesting me enough to finish it. In my stash, WIPs are being worked on, albeit slowly and intermittently. For example, right now, I have two "new" projects I'm working on, and three WIPs which get, at most,  two or three days of stitching before I move on to another.  UFOs are in a tote bag, carefully folded and ignored because they no longer "are my jam" and, odds are, they will remain unfinished. As for never-started projects, let's not even go there!
~~~~~WIPS~~~~~

1. Elizabeth Almond's "Save the Stitches", begun in 2014. I worked on blocks 96 - 100 (out of 131) this month.

2. "Kingdoms of Life" by Stitchonomy, begun in 2023. Using the kit provided (an oatmeal Aida and DMC colors) plus a select few skeins of grey and greens for the changes to make my biology major mind happy with how the individual organisms look in real life. I started on the animal kingdom this month...

3. "Royal Gardens", a mystery SAL by Fox & Rabbit, begun in 2023. On a pale green 32ct Lugana (it said "sapphire" but it doesn't look blue to me) and Threadworx variegated thread (1048 "Woodland Green"). I worked on the left border this month. I'm on schedule here - June's installment is due out on June 1...

5. Stitchoomy Summer Banner 2024 SAL. This SAL began for club subscribers on May 14 and six installments have been released so far. I am stitching on the Midas Gold AIDA and the DMC threads in the kit. I have stitched all bands called for so far with the exception of one, where I chose the alternate provided. I am up to date on this one as well, but can't show any progress until the SAL is opened to non-club members.

WIPocalypse 2024 Check-In - April 28, 2024

 Today's discussion topic is:

"Which designers have you discovered lately?"

Not sure that I have discovered any new designers lately. I have found one blackwork designer a year ago:

Cliffside Stitches https://cliffsidestitches.com/ - I have been collecting weekly SAL pdfs from their facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/groups/976911076971090, but I haven't  stitched anything yet.

Been too busy trying to finish up my backlog of WIPs and there is still a huge stash of charts purchased over the years that I haven't even touched!

~~~~~WIPS~~~~~
1. Elizabeth Almond's "Save the Stitches", begun in 2014. I worked on blocks 91 - 95 (out of 131) this month.
2. "Kingdoms of Life" by Stitchonomy, begun in 2023. Using the kit provided (an oatmeal Aida and DMC colors) plus a select few skeins of grey and greens for the changes to make my biology major mind happy with how the individual organisms look in real life. I finished the fungi this month, where I made a few color modifications and fudged several spacing issues. Only the animal kingdom left!
3. "Royal Gardens", a mystery SAL by Fox & Rabbit, begun in 2023. On a pale green 32ct Lugana (it said "sapphire" but it doesn't look blue to me! Are there green sapphires? Apparently they are very rare in nature https://www.gia.edu/sapphire-quality-factor Who knew?) and Threadworx variegated thread (1048 "Woodland Green"). I worked on ensuring that the left-side border would meet up with the bottom border. (It as ONE stitch off so I need to figure out how to edge the design between the borders in the bottom and left sides to meet up properly. AARGH!).
4. "Faith, Hope, Love", a mystery SAL for 2024 by Fox & Rabbit. On antique white 28 ct Lugana using a Threadworx variegated (Autumn Leaves 1039) and three DMC colors (436, 975, and 310) that closely match some colors on that Threadworx floss... I'm on schedule here - May's installment is due out on May 1...
  • My traveling needlepoint was taken out in March and put right back in the project bag. I need to sit down with the chart and sort and label large hanks of numbered threads by color so I can actually stitch! I wanted to set a weekend aside in April to do this, but eclipse-mania, household guests for the eclipse weekend, and several weeks of intermittent power failure meant I didn't get around to it. . AAARGH!.
And that is my April report... On to May!
Today's discussion topic is:
"What colors – and brands – of floss do you love using?
Do you have a particular color that you absolutely love?"
I don't think I have a particular color or color set that I prefer over any other. I usually go with called-for colors except for more geometric blackwork pieces and the occasional large sampler, where I may improvise. Then, I may substitute a color that goes nicely with my fabric background, often a variegated if I have it,  for all-black patterns.
As for preferred brands --- I use DMC a lot but, lately, I've been using Threadworx variegated for larger pieces.
~~~~~Completions~~~~~

"Winter SAL 2024" by Stitchonomy, using the kit (a dark aqua Aida and a selection of DMC colors) and charms provided:

There are a couple of counting errors but I left them since I discovered them each after two sessions of stitching. I don't think they hurt the pattern at all...

~~~~~WIPS~~~~~
1. Elizabeth Almond's "Save the Stitches", begun in 2014. I worked on blocks 87 - 90 (out of 131 total) this month:
2. "Kingdoms of Life" by Stitchonomy, begun in 2023. Using the kit provided (an oatmeal Aida and DMC colors, plus a select few skeins of grey and greens for the changes. I worked on the fungi this month, where I made a few color modifications:
3. "Royal Gardens", a mystery SAL by Fox & Rabbit, begun in 2023. On a pale green even weave (it said "sapphire" but it doesn't look blue to me!) and Threadworx variegated thread. I worked on ensuring that the left-side border would meet up with the bottom border. Almost there...
4. "Faith, Hope, Love", a mystery SAL for 2024 by Fox & Rabbit. On antique white even weave using a Threadworx variegated (Autumn Leaves) and three DMC colors that match parts of the Threadworx floss... I'm on schedule here - April's installment is due out on April 1...
