"Fountain Mandala" is complete

with a change... I simply couldn't face doing a single cross stitch in metallic thread  in the middle of each box stitch. I just KNEW that there would be traveling threads visible through that linen. So I substituted beads!

Here is a close-up of the beading detail in the corners - you can see the beads in the box stitches as well as on the border, in the flower centers and on the bird cage.:

And here is a close-up of the fountain (the water is outlined in backstitch in silver treasure braid):

  1. WOW - you did a LOT on there, QUICK! A Great Finish - and the bead sub, good choice! Nicely done....

    So - what's next?

  2. January Bead Journal Project piece... I have a design, the fabric and the beads picked out. Just a matter of getting up the motivation to mess with that tiny needle eye and those pesky beads!

  3. Very serene. Intricate. Carol, How long have you been doing needlework? I've been beading for about 2 years. My passion is sead beads, so when I saw the BJP on the Bead and Button website I thought I would give it a try.My creativity has been on overdrive.I have ideas for the next 3 yrs.

  4. Leslie, I've been stitching since graduate school, in the mid-1960's. Started out with crewel, graduated to needlepoint in the late 60's, and took up cross-stitch in the late seventies when I was flying a lot for business and needlepoint was too awkward to carry on the plane! Beading, except for the odd embellishment on cross-stitch, is a new thing for me --- last year's BJP was my first attempt!

  5. Carol, Well, I don't feel like the odd woman out, being new at this. What kind of work do you do? I'm a semi retired dental technician.

  6. Totally NOT odd woman out. I see a lot of other newbies on the BJP blog as well! And your beadwork is beautiful!

I'm a totally retired teacher! I was a department head and instructor at a community college (biological sciences - I taught pre-med, pre-nursing and EMT classes in anatomy, microbiology and the line!) until 1992 when my husband was transferred to London and I became a full-time semi-pro tourist! Spent the next ten years as an expat (4 in England, 2 in Beijing, China and 4 in Eastern Saudi Arabia) before returning to Ohio because hubby was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Been here ever since!
